Nathan was a private in Capt. Hand's Reg. 1776. 1798, second session, Nathan was a deputy to the General Court. He was also a Justice in North Guilford Parish in 1800.
Joseph, Nathan's elder son, discovered when he was 40 years of age, in 1827, the original spelling of the Chedsey name and changed his name back to CHEDSEY from CHIDSEY . His father, Nathan, was buried as a Chedsey, as he died after the name change by his son.
Nathan was buried at Bluff Head Cemetery on Durham Road, on his tombstone: Nathan Chedsey , Esq. Born March 1,1755 Died Nov. 8, 1832 A man of esteem and respect. This monument erected to his memory by his surviving son, Joseph.
Nathan's second wife, Mary Kimberly, was buried next to him as MARY CHIDSEY. |
